Because it Looked Red

It is weird to think of how much we have been bombarded with information and awareness movement on racism that most are fluent in identifying a tiny sign of it. Meanwhile for some other who don't get much access to those pieces of information, would just plainly blurt thing as it is casually not knowing it would translate into something else.

I walked with Amirah my good-bud to a nearby shop to get some snacks. Inside there was a caucasian guy with his kid on the front line counter paying the items he bought. I was pretty sure english is not their native language because I heard the way his group talked, so perhaps a tourist from Europe. The little girl calmly stood next to his father when an old woman close to her casually said, with a loud confident voice.

"EEH WHY YOUR FACE SO RED??"

I am sure it was one hell of awkward silence. Her dad did not even entertain that woman, not even a single glance, the girl stood as still as a stone.

"huh? why so red????"

I exchanged a glance with Amirah. I was anticipating her dad's defense but they just left without any word. We looked at each other knowing we'll talk about this the moment we walked out.

That old woman uttered it simply because she saw her face physically, visibly red, that's it. That is as far as her concern goes.
